Three of the visitors’ four goals came from dead-ball situations, with Callum Jones scoring twice as Ramsgate exposed Whitehawk’s struggles to clear their lines. Kamarni Ryan’s equaliser briefly brought the hosts back into contention, but the Rams regained control and never surrendered their advantage.
The Hawks entered the contest second from bottom in the Isthmian Premier Division, facing opponents flying high in the table. Ramsgate arrived with confidence following a 2–1 midweek victory over Dartford, and carried that momentum into another convincing result.
There was an unusual twist before kick-off, however, as an apparent kit clash forced the visitors to change into Whitehawk’s away shirts. It made for a bizarre sight, but there was little confusion about which side took the initiative once the action began.
Ramsgate struck early through Cameron James, who met Alfie Paxman’s corner with a brilliant header to give the visitors a deserved lead. It was an early warning of the danger the Rams would pose whenever they could send the ball into the penalty area.
Whitehawk found a response after 30 minutes. Their first good opportunity brought an equaliser, with Ryan pulling the Hawks level and giving the home side a foothold in a difficult contest.
That recovery proved short-lived. Benedict Bioletti launched a long throw into the box, Whitehawk failed to clear, and Paxman turned before firing home from around ten yards. The goalkeeper got a hand to the effort but could not prevent Ramsgate restoring their lead.
The visitors continued to threaten from set pieces. Captain Dave Winfield headed just wide from a corner delivered from the left, providing another reminder of the problems Whitehawk were having in defending their penalty area.
Ramsgate’s third followed a familiar pattern. Paxman delivered from the left and Winfield headed the ball across goal. Bioletti’s effort was blocked on the line, but Jones turned his marker and converted the rebound to stretch the advantage to 3–1.
Jones then added his second as the Hawks’ afternoon unravelled further. Tom Clifford found Paxman in space on the left of the box, and his cutback picked out Bioletti. Another blocked shot fell kindly for Jones, who found the bottom corner to complete the scoring.
For Whitehawk, the frustration lay in repeatedly surviving an initial effort only to concede from the next phase. Ramsgate kept the pressure alive and punished those failures to clear. Ryan’s goal offered hope, but Ramsgate answered emphatically.
The Hawks now turn their attention to Wednesday, 14th October, when they travel to AFC Whyteleafe, sitting just above them in the drop zone. Ramsgate head to Wingate & Finchley, who are just below mid-table, looking to build on another productive afternoon.
